How to calculate profit from selling domain names

Profit is price minus fees minus what you paid and what you spent holding the name.

A sale price is not profit. To know whether a sale was worth it, subtract the marketplace or escrow fees and the cost of the name, then account for what you spent keeping it.

The basic formula is: sale price - fees - purchase cost = profit on the sale. Do this per name, so you can see which sales carried the portfolio and which names cost more than they brought in.

Holding costs matter too. Renewal fees, tools and outreach costs reduce your real return. Track them as expenses, and look at total profit as revenue minus the cost of sold names minus expenses.

Be careful with names that have no recorded cost. If you leave the purchase price empty, the profit looks higher than it is. Fill in costs for the names you sell, even if you have to estimate and mark it as an estimate.

In Namelizer, record the sale on the Sales page or accept an offer on the Offers page. Profit per sale uses the purchase cost from your Portfolio, and the overview adds your logged expenses. The app records the result. It does not complete the sale, which happens at the marketplace or registrar.
